When the trailer for The Boys Season 4 was released, people were baffled to see Black Noir up and about. This came as a shock to fans since we saw Homelander punch a hole through Black Noir in The Boys Season 3. People initially assumed that Black Noir had died in Season 3 but that theory was taken down as soon as The Boys Season 4 made its debut. So, how is Black Noir still alive, and why was his death never made public? Let’s find out.
The Original Black Noir Is Dead and Replaced by Black Noir 2
The original Black Noir was brutally killed by Homelander in Season 3 and is replaced by an entirely different character under the mask in The Boys Season 4. Eric Kripke, the showrunner, confirmed that Black Noir in Season 4 is an entirely different character and is played by Nathan Mitchell. Before this, Nathan Mitchell was the stuntman for Black Noir’s character while the unmasked version of the supe was played by Fritzy-Klevans Destine.
In a recent statement, Eric Kripke elaborated, “[Mitchell is] a different character who wears the Black Noir suit. It’s definitely not the last we’ve seen of Black Noir as a hero. It’s just that the guy who was inside [the Noir suit] in season 3, he’s gone. But we have Nathan playing a really interesting and hilarious character who wears the suit next season.”
We were not given the real name of the character played by Nathan Mitchell but we know that he can fly and is invincible. Other than that, we do not know about any of his powers so let’s wait and see if anything more is revealed to us in The Boys Season 5.
Why Was Black Noir Brought Back?
Black Noir was one of the most popular supe in The Seven since Vought advertises The Seven as a group of almost family-like superheroes. If the news of Homelander killing Black Noir got out, it would shatter the image of Vought and The Seven. Black Noir was brought back in The Boys Season 4 with another character simply for advertisement and marketing purposes and to keep the image of The Seven intact.
However, even though Black Noir is back, the unnamed character played by Nathan Mitchell is very skeptical of how Homelander makes them do bad and weird things all the time. He also does not like the way nobody tells him why he is doing what he is doing.
I have a hunch that this new character is going to do something quite significant in The Boys Season 5. However, we’ll have to wait for quite some time to know what is going to happen; till then, stay tuned with us for further updates!
