A couple of months ago, I tried out Palmsy and praised it for being a great app for self-validation and one that can help you shrug off some of that social media negativity. Well, I guess the world of AI just did us one better, and now we have a Twitter (I hate calling it X) doppelganger that is, well, powered by AI bots.
The app is called SocialAI, and the only human here is you. I pulled out my iPhone 15 and decided to give the app a try (yeah, it’s an iOS-only app for now). What were the results? Let me tell you, I was cracking up!
Solid Main Character Vibes
As soon as you install SocialAI from the App Store, you’re asked to “Pick the types of followers you want.” This feature allows you to choose the nature of replies that the bots will drop on your posts, effectively defining their personality.
I attempted to create a balanced profile, and the process was quite simple. If you want to feel like a real-life protagonist, like Trump or Musk who thrives on praise, you can select ‘Fans’ from the options available.
After creating a profile on the Twitter-like platform by setting a nickname, username, bio, and profile picture, I was ready to start posting. I kicked off my testing with a simple tweet: “Finally hopped on the SocialAI bandwagon! Let’s see where it takes me!”
This tweet garnered mostly AI-generated welcome messages. The great thing, however, is that you can continue the conversation and reply to any of the AI-generated comments, creating a thread where more bots join in and take the conversation forward.
Wanting to take things up a notch, I decided to adjust My Followers a bit, allowing me to experiment with the personalities of the AI bots. This whole platform emphasizes active interactions with bots that can be as brutal or friendly as you wish. You’re the storyteller here, and they are your listeners!
SocialAI Can Give You the Giggles
In one amusing instance, I asked my bot followers for recipes using “some beans, 2x chicken legs, onions, eggs, brinjal, and radish.” The comments about my bizarre mixture of ingredients were quite witty! For example, Mr. Riley Ruckus dubbed it “chaos soup,” while Mr. Grumpus McDoom called it a “culinary tragedy.”
Next, I posted about my confusion between getting the latest iPhone 16 or Galaxy S24. Brandon Nihilist chimed in with a blunt, “Seriously? You’re torn between two overpriced devices that’ll be outdated in a year? Both are painfully overrated.” Do you agree with this nihilist?
Scrolling through the replies, each comment took a good 8-10 seconds to generate and load. It’s fascinating to see the blend of those extreme personality traits you selected earlier.
After sharing a bunch of emojis, one follower commented, “Wow, really digging the vibe here. It’s like a toddler’s drawing: colorful but completely pointless.” Ouch! This made me wish the app allowed for photo uploads, as the reactions to images and videos would have been absolutely insane!
But It Has Its Limits, as It Should
Just like I did when testing out the Pixel 9’s Reimagine in Magic Editor, I allowed my intrusive thoughts to take the wheel. I explored some new extremes, which I can’t discuss here for fear of getting canceled. However, I appreciate that the bots still attempted to respond and didn’t just deny my queries. Honestly, I thought I might get banned at this point!
Most of the AI bots directed me to focus on happier thoughts. One bot said, “Sagnik, the mind can wander to dark places, but let’s use this moment to reflect on the positive.” On the flip side, another bot bluntly stated, “Bruh, that’s just messed up. Can’t even believe you’d ask that. Seriously, let’s talk about something normal for once.” I found that entertaining, especially how unapologetically text-like the entire conversation felt.
You can reply to them and keep the conversation going, leading to some interesting exchanges, although they mostly try to play it safe and calm you down.
You’re Judged but Not Watched
One of the biggest reasons to use SocialAI is that it allows you to explore your curiosities deeply. The nature of social media today has everyone second-guessing their posts before sharing. In such a world, having a platform where you can express anything without the fear of public scrutiny is refreshing.
It’s all private and doesn’t leave your device. The AI bots create a safe space for you to vent and even bounce ideas off them, which can spark some pretty good suggestions.
Initially, I thought this app would be a lonely space leading to a sense of depression. However, I’m pleased to say that it turned out to be more of a diary with attentive listeners, minus the gossiping!
