The Haunt is a seasonal event that came to Roblox on October 24, 2024. To participate in The Haunt, you need to submit a capture from any one of the 22 participating games that match the theme. In 2024, the themes are: Creatures, Cute, Villians, Orange, and Scary. For tips on how to win the costume contests in The Haunt, keep reading.
The best ways to win the costume contests in The Haunt 2024
A good number of the community who are submitting captures for Roblox's The Haunt event are using Dress to Impress to create their costumes for free. Those who aren't using DTI are submitting images of various characters from different games, or they're using their own items from their account.
The downside to that last option is that all of the decent Halloween-esque items cost Robux, which cost real-life money. That's already a problem in The Haunt because you have to pay for many of the "prizes."
If you want to participate for free and actually create a costume instead of using one of the spooky beings from various games that are taking part in The Haunt, you'll need to use Dress to Impress.
Creatures
The theme for day one of The Haunt is "Creatures."
Thankfully, DTI has plenty of new Halloween items that can help you create a spooky look that is sure to send shivers down other players' spines. The trick is to take the photo in an area that is creepy too - unfortunately, the special camera for The Haunt disappears in the new DTI Halloween Lana Lore quests. It does, however, stay put in the lobby, the waiting area for the chapters, and the dressing room!
A really cool thing you can do with the blood droplet necklace is change the chain to the color of your avatar's skin so the blood looks more purposeful. There are plenty of makeup styles that came with the Halloween update that suit a creature look, too.
You just need to get creative with it. Think siren, zombie, ghoul, vampire... Use lots of the same color palette and mix it with black accents to get a powerful look.
Then, it's all about using the surroundings you have. The dressing room doesn't work for a creature outfit, but the lobby and chapter waiting room do.
I dressed as a siren and angled my capture so the "camera" was below the water. Change the environment from day to night, and done!
Cute
Cute outfits are much easier in Dress to Impress. These are very common, which can sometimes make them a little boring to do. But, it'll get your day two submission done.
DTI has plenty of cute clothes, but I'm partial to the asymmetrical hem dress that gives off 50s vibes. I added some blue and white gingham to the main part of the dress, and then added some Wizard of Oz magic with some sparkly red heels.
All I needed to do then was wait for the voting to be over to get a cute shot in the lobby by some flowers.
It's very much a Halloweenish version of Dorothy, but it's cute and that's what matters.
Use plenty of pastel colors, feminine accessories, and go for a more cutesy face when you're choosing your makeup.
Villians
Villians was a really fun category to create an outfit for. On the back of my cute Dorothy-inspired outfit, I was still thinking about musicals and that pushed me in a Disney direction.
I chose the Evil Witch from Snow White as my inspiration for the Villians category, but there are so many Disney villains that you could use to create your outfit in Dress to Impress! Cruella comes to mind, especially with the big, fluffy coat and hat. There are also a couple of split-color hairstyles in DTI, which would be spot-on for Cruella.
If you don't want to go with a Disney villain, you could choose a more stereotypical Halloween villain. Maybe try a kind of headless horseman where you dress yourself in black and hold a pumpkin to your side, or recreate Lina from the Lana lore.
Orange
I feel like a lot of people are going to automatically reach for apumpkin for the Orange category, so what matters is how you build your outfit around it.
I wanted a kind of circus aesthetic to my look, but I was also thinking about Caesar from The Hunger Games and how he always had big, over-the-top hair, and was often in a suit. I took those elements and raided the new Halloween stand from the center of the Dress to Impress dressing room (near the menswear section).
This look actually got me first place when I used it in DTI so I could take photos of it afterward. That was a very welcome surprise!
Scary
The Scary category is probably the most difficult one of the five categories to create in Dress to Impress. I'd advise going for "unsettling" over "scary," simply because of the patterns and clothing that you can get to on DTI. I'm playing without VIP,
My favorite thing about this... Admittedly strange get-up is the hidden eye on the waist. The more you look at the outfit, the weirder it gets — and eyes are just a bit *shivers* on clothing.
The pattern on the wings is the same as the one on the main body of my avatar's outfit, which I liked because it carries that shade of pink from the corner of your eye. Well, "like" is a strong word. It worked for the outfit, and made me grimace the more I thought about it, so I knew I'd made the right decision.
It's hard not to repeat your ideas with the Creature, Villians, and Scary categories. They're all very similar and you could use the same outfit for all three.
Remember that you don't need to use Dress to Impress. From what I've seen from submissions when voting, a lot of players are also taking captures in-game of things that are freaking them out. So, if you don't play DTI, you'll still be able to create some creepy captures for The Haunt 2024.
