Jiren is one of those few characters in Dragon Ball Sparking Zero who has an alternate storyline, which you can unlock and enjoy in the Episode battle mode.
The Sparking episodes resemble alternate what-if storylines that are vastly different from the canon. Unlike the standard canon, you’ll have to complete certain steps to trigger the branching path at first. For Jiren, you can unlock his alternate storyline, “True Strength,” and complete all the episodes to get some bonus rewards.

Jiren is one of the two characters whose base campaign has to be unlocked. If you want to unlock True Strength episodes, you’ll need to pick “Wait and See” during the Saiyan Rampage Episode. It’s relatively easy to trigger the alternate storyline, and here’s how the story proceeds thereafter.
Episode | How to control |
---|---|
Warriors from Universe 7 | The first episode takes place at the Tournament of Power, and you’ll have to defeat Android 17, Android 18, and Goku (SSGSS form). |
Saiyans Awaken | Jiren considers Universe 7 to be unworthy after defeating the two Androids and Goku. But Goku is yet to be defeated, and he unlocks his Ultra Instinct form. You’ll need to defeat Goku to complete the second episode. |
Goku’s Mentor | You’ll have to fight Goku’s mentor Master Roshi, who steps in to help out his student recharge and master the Ultra Instinct Form. To end the episode, reduce Master Roshi’s health. |
The Defeated | I don’t think there’s a single battle as difficult as this episode. You go up against Android 17, Golden Frieza, Vegeta, and Goku to finish the episode. Just to make matters, worse, Goku will power up to his full Ultra Instinct form on being defeated, and make a full health recovery before the last episode. |
Ultimate Climatic Battle | In the final battle, you defeat Goku once and for all. The ending is exactly opposite to the canon, but Jiren will show his compassionate side ultimately (leaving the ending for you to figure out). |
It might be slightly tricky to unlock Jiren’s main episodes, but the grind is certainly worth the unique story that follows. The Defeated will also be a true test of your fighting abilities since you can’t button-mash your way through the other fighters.
