In a strikingly unexpected turn of events, Bohemia Interactive has now officially announced that it’s working on Arma 4. The game will, however, not be coming out until 2027. The fact that Bohemia was working on the game isn’t a surprise, but its launch window most certainly is.
More specifically, it’s been two years since Arma Reforger came out, which was billed as a kinda-sorta testing ground for Bohemia’s new Enfusion game engine. Reforger has since turned into an all-out bonanza for modders and the community at large. The obvious expectation, however, was that it wouldn’t take that long for a new mainline Arma title to hit the stores. Yet, here we are.
Arma 4 isn’t coming anytime soon, but Reforger is still there for us
We know precious little about Arma 4, really. It’s being developed, yes, and it’s slated to release in 2027, but everything else is theorycrafting and pure hypotheticals. As it currently stands, Arma Reforger is in a pretty good spot as the go-to tactical infantry sim nowadays. It’s not getting all that many updates from Bohemia anymore, which suggests that the majority of the development team has by now moved on to the next big project (i.e., Arma 4). Further, the posting of this announcement also serves as a sort of a call to action for developers who might be looking to join Bohemia to work on the game.
Obviously, the announcement also gives us a firm expectation of the project’s timeline, which has value in and of itself.
With all of that in mind, it feels like Bohemia finally has a tentative development pipeline in place, with 2027 being the likely end goal as it currently stands. It’s a realistic target, if nothing else, and it also means we can collectively stop asking about Arma 4 for the time being. Back to Reforger, then.
