No one can deny that The Joker has been Batman’s most dangerous enemy. Similarly, we can’t also argue that Penguin is one of the robust enemies of the caped crusader. So, it’s obvious every fan is desperately waiting for the arrival of Max’s new show that revolves around the Penguin. With all the anticipation, fans hope to see Batman in a prominent role in the series or make a cameo. The creators of The Penguin have recently opened up on this, and we discuss it here.
Will Batman Make an Appearance in The Penguin?
Sadly, Batman will not have any screen time in The Penguin. Robert Pattinson’s Batman is the latest in the franchise, and every fan curiously wanted to know if the actor will appear as the caped crusader in the Max series ahead of The Batman’s much-awaited sequel. In a recent interview, the showrunner of the television series stated that he isn’t looking forward to involving Batman in the project.
To justify the decision, Lauren LeFranc explained that “Matt’s films are through the lens of the Batman, so you’re high up, looking down on the city… With Oz, you’re in the city streets, you’re in the grit, it’s a different experience.” She noted that Gotham City, featured in The Penguin, is entirely different and interesting without having Batman involved. The Penguin’s story works differently and perfectly without the vigilante.
According to Deadline, the creator of Batman, Matt Reeves, also agrees with LeFranc. He mentioned that Batman’s absence in The Penguin won’t have a significant impact on the series. He added that the series is “an extension of what is fundamentally there. We know this is the world of Batman.”
Will Bruce Wayne Appear in The Penguin?
Though we now know that we will not get to see a Batman cameo, neither Reeves nor LeFranc confirmed that Bruce Wayne would not appear. This means we can still keep our hopes high for a cameo from Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne. If that happens, we might witness some iconic scenes and dialogues in the Colin Farrell-starring TV show!
Moreover, there’s a high possibility that the concluding scenes of The Penguin may somehow connect to the events of The Batman 2. While there’s no confirmation regarding that, the events in The Penguin could very well set up things for the second movie.
It’s really important that the TV show and the movies connect well! If they don’t, fans won’t be motivated enough to invest their time in the TV show and will likely watch The Batman 2 whenever it arrives in theatres.
